Our history: Haven ship accident information system

Thirty years have passed since the explosion on 11 April 1991 aboard the oil tanker Haven in front of Genoa Voltri. The outbreak causes 5 deaths, 30 injuries and the largest ecological disaster in the Mediterranean. Over 140 thousand tons of crude oil catch fire, the oily mass pours along the western coast and the Haven sinks a few miles off the coast of Arenzano. Techne Consulting created a few months later for ENEA and the Ministry of the Environment an information system relating to the environmental damage resulting from the accident on the Haven ship which collected all the data and maps of the accident and the environmental monitoring campaigns carried out in the area.

2021 UNECE Task Force on Emission Inventories and Projections

The Task Force on Emission Inventories and Projections,  in the frame of UNECE Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution, held its annual meeting jointly with the EEA’s EIONET network on 4-6th May 2021. The meeting was held remotely due to restrictions in place in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 34th meeting of the Task Force was kindly hosted by the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute. The meeting was well attended with attendance peaking at over 200 people, from approximately 40 countries. The TFEIP supports Parties in the reporting of official air pollutant emissions and projections data to the Convention.  It also provides a technical forum and expert network to identify emission factors, establish methodologies for the estimation of emissions, and identify problems related to data reporting. The technical sessions took place not in parallel, allowing for participants to join all available sessions. At the meeting our Technical Director co-chaired the Combustion & Industry Expert Panel and gave a short communication about Biodiesel and biogas use in energy industries

E2Road new release with updated emission factors

Techne Consulting has recently released a new version of its model for the estimation of fuel consumption and air pollutants emissions from road traffic E2Road.

E2Road currently is updated following the latest methodology in EMEP/EEA Air Pollutants Emission Inventory Guidebook.

The model with a dedicated interface realized from Techne Consulting can read the results of the most popular models for the evaluation of traffic flows (EMME and VISUM) and monitoring data and provide the estimate of fuel consumption and emissions of all air pollutants on individual arcs of the simulations.

CLAiR-City: Genova City day

On October 25th, 2019 in Genoa, within the framework of the Science Festival, took place the city day of the European project Clair-City (Citizen Led Air pollution Reduction in Cities), funded by the European community under Horizon 2020 and led by a consortium of universities, research centers, public bodies, international organizations and companies (including Techne Consulting).

During the event, the Deputy Director of the Environment Directorate of Liguria and the councilor for the environment described the situation in Liguria and the technical director of Techne Consulting carried out a presentation of the project and the results obtained so far in involving citizens and stakeholders.

The best short films made by the citizens on sustainable mobility and the winner of the school competition "My city, my school, my home", both promoted within the project, were also awarded.

Harmonisation within Atmospheric Dispersion Modelling for Regulatory Purposes

Some results of Techne Consulting work on air quality modelling for air quality management have been presented at beginning of June 2019 to the 19th International Conference on Harmonisation within Atmospheric Dispersion Modelling for Regulatory Purposes in Bruges (Belgium).

The wok "Regional and local air quality modelling in different scenarios for EU directives application: Italy case studies" has been presented by our technical director and defines a first balance of the work in air quality modelling in the frame of air quality planning.

In the same occasion a poster on work of the ClairCity partner was presented.
