35 years of Techne Consulting

November 6, 2021 Techne Consulting celebrated 35 years of consulting and software development in the fields of environment and energy. In these 35 years we have worked with leading energy and environmental Italian institutions (Ministry of Environment, Regions, National and Regional Environmental Protection Agencies) and with research institutions (ENEA, CNR, ISPRA, universities, etc.), We participated in the most important international working groups on air pollution (from CORINAIR 85 project), we have published many original scientific papers that have often anticipated the problems that would emerge in subsequent years. Among other things we have been pioneers in stressing the importance of an integrated approach to energy and air quality planning indicating the possible negative influences on air quality of the combustion of solid biomass. We also developed the first model of assessment of pollutant emissions from ships in the specific Transport programme under 4th Research and Technology Development Framework Programme of the European Commission.

EXperts Panel on Polluting Emissions Reduction (EXPAPER 2024)

Presented on November 8, 2024 at ACI in Rome as part of the EXperts Panel on Polluting Emissions Reduction (EXPAPER 2024) the work Emissioni delle navi nei porti liguri: trend, COVID, proiezioni e implementazione Area NECA.

The work describes the emissions of air pollutants in Ligurian ports in 2021, discussing the effects of prolonged ship stops in port due to COVID. Subsequently, future emissions are estimated by evaluating the effects of increased traffic, regulations and electrification of ports. Finally, the effects of a hypothetical introduction of a NECA area (nitrogen oxide emission control area) are discussed.

Sustainable Development and Planning 2024

The Technical Director of Techne Consulting, a partner in the ICHANGE project, presented a paper with some of the project’s results last week at the 13th International Conference on Sustainable Development and Planning held in Seville from 23 to 25 September 2024.  At the conference was registered 81 people from all continents with different professional backgrounds who share an interest in sustainable planning.

The invited presentation first provided an overview of environmental footprints used to assess the impacts of human activities on the environment. The Horizon 2020 I-CHANGE project was then introduced, which addresses the challenge of engaging and promoting active citizen participation to address climate change, sustainable development and environmental protection. Finally, environmental footprint methodologies were applied based on the information collected by the Living Labs on daily activities, traffic simulation results and statistical data to calculate specific footprints in the base case and in the alternative scenarios for different Living Labs in the I-CHANGE project.
