Emissions - Emission Inventory

Emissions of E2Gov allows the creation of pollutants emissions inventories in different environmental media using the basic data contained in Data Manager and integrating them with specific data on emissions and emission factors.

Information has the same logical structure of Data Manager and allows the estimation of emissions from point, line, area, and statistical sources subdivided in:

  • Annual time series
  • Environmental media (air, water, soil, noise, electromagnetic waves)
  • Contaminants or physical parameters
  • Activities that produce emissions
  • Where significant, fuels involved in the activity

Data on emissions can be measured directly at the source (for major sources) or estimated by use appropriate emission factors (in particular for statistical sources).
Emissions allows you to:

  • Directly insert in the system the emissions of the main sources using the data reported by the management of the source
  • Validate the emissions reported by source management comparing with the data estimated from standard emission factors in the system
  • Estimate the emissions from standard emission factors in the system for sources that do not have declared data
  • Estimate the emissions from statistical sources using statistical information and standard emission factors in the system

Specific classifications of activities may be established for the emission inventory management for the different environmental compartments.

For example regarding air pollutant emissions SNAP classification (Selected Nomenclature for Air Pollution) is conventionally used. Currently, the most recent applications of the system use the classification SNAP 2007 extended and adapted, if necessary (for sub-regional inventories), to include activities relevant to sub-national level.

The system contains within it a broad and validated database of the air pollutants and greenhouse gases emissions factors and an experimental database of emission factors in water.

The system provides outputs in the form of tables and thematic emissions maps, and generate data for to the Uncertainty and Speciation modules.
